What's Happening @ HDE?

The First (Hopefully Annual) HDE Superbowl Potluck

Posted by David Malafarina on

It all started with a simple invitation to a potluck on the Friday before the Superbowl, but turned into something a bit more elaborate and fun!

This Friday, our company broke for about two hours to celebrate this annual American holiday (and yes, the Superbowl is basically a holiday in this country) with a company pot luck and competition. When it came to food, our employees brought their A-game with some favorites like buffalo chicken dip, sweet and sour meatballs, pigs in a blanket and, of course, gratuitous amounts of sweets.

However, HDE's management team had something more planned for this Friday afternoon event.

They had set up a small competition in our warehouse: the HDE Football Throw Challenge. Two-person teams were invited to try and score as many points as they could in two minutes (60 seconds per team member) by throwing foam footballs into trash cans and empty storage boxes, with the top two teams competing in an championship round for prizes and bragging rights. They even made the game a little more cathartic by hanging pictures of the senior staff in front of the boxes (in case some employees needed to let out some pent up aggression)!

Twenty of our most intrepid employees elected to duke it out in this inventive (and fun!) game of skill. While everyone put up a good fight, in the end there could be only one victorious team and that was the team of Justin Mai and Justin Brown (who fashioned themselves Justin²). They each earned a $10 gift card to Walmart and bragging rights for the next year.

In addition to the football throw challenge, we had tables set up for beer pong (minus the beer because work hours) and ring toss, old footage of past Superbowls playing on a flat screen TV, and a Superbowl raffle where the person who can guess the results of the Superbowl most accurately would win a $25 gift card!

Hopefully, we can do something similar for the next Superbowl!
